We have available for FREE download a range of Lizard of Oz design
papers to help you produce your paper piecing designs. The design papers provide working sheets to help you sketch
your designs. The sheets consist of tessellated shapes (for example
hexagons) that provide a framework for your design. Commonly called graph
paper, we prefer to call them design paper since that reflects more
accurately their use in quilting.
All
you need is some coloured pencils or highlighting pens and you can
create your own designs whenever the inspiration strikes you! Our design
papers make it easy to quickly create as many piecing designs as you like.
Once
you have created your design you will need to work out how many shapes you need
to make your quilt. We have quilt layouts
for some of the designs listed below that can make this task much easier. Just
click the link to the right of the design to go to the layouts page.

Each design paper has the
following features:
- Extremely accurate shape tessellation. Our design papers are created
using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to ensure 100% accuracy.
- An information block at the bottom of the design paper for your use.
The block lets your record information about the design, including the
number of shapes in the design.
- You will find all the shapes you need to make your quilt available
from our range of Foundation Papers in the Paper Piecing section of
this site.
The design papers are in PDF format. You will need a copy of Acrobat
Reader on your computer to be able to open and print the papers. Acrobat
Reader is freely downloadable from
There are two versions of each design paper, one formatted for
letter size paper and one for A4 paper. Click on the design paper file name on the left to view and/or download the file to
your computer. You can then print the design paper as many times as you
wish.
